The Benefits of our Ingredients
Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice derived from the roots of the Curcuma Longa plant, a member of the Ginger family.Turmeric is argued by many to be one of the most powerful spices on the planet.
Turmeric contains a biologically active compound called 'curcumin' and it is curcumin that is believed to give Turmeric its healing power. Curcumin is considered to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties (among other benefits).Turmeric is a functional food, meaning it has a positive effect on human health beyond basic nutrition.
Turmeric has been used for thousands of years, particularly in Ayuverdic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine to help manage pain, swelling, digestion, cholesterol, blood sugar and more.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties : Turmeric is believed to have potent anti-inflammatory properties through the action of curcumin inhibiting the molecules that play a significant role in the inflammatory process. Chronic inflammation is linked to many health issues so Turmeric can provide a natural way to help in managing these conditions
Antioxidant Boost : Turmeric is believed to be a powerful antioxidant boost. Antioxidants fight free radicals in the body. Free radicals contribute to oxidative stress which leads to cellular damage and the potential development of various diseases. The curcumin in turmeric can help neutralise the free radiclas and support improved health.
Relief from inflammatory conditions : Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is believed regularly consuming Turmeric over an extended period of time can be beneficial for individuals with inflammatory conditions such as ulcerative colitis and arthritis.
Always consult with your helathcare provider to ensure turmeric fits well with your overall treatment plans for your condition.
Ginger
Ginger is a spice derived from the root of the zingiber officinale and is a close relation to Turmeric. As with Turmeric, Ginger has been used for centuries in traditional cooking and medicine.
Ginger contains several biologically active compounds, the main one being Gingerol, and these give Ginger its many medicinal properties. Unlike Turmeric which is quite bitter, Ginger has a sweet, hot peppery taste which is unmistakeable.
Just like Turmeric, Ginger is a functional food and can give many positive benefits.
Improved digestion : ginger promotes the secretion of digestive enzymes creating more efficient digestion so food doesn't linger so long in the gut. This can reduce fermentation in the gut, constipation and other causes of bloating and intestinal gas.
Nausea relief : ginger may be effective at reducing feelings of nausea such as morning sickness, motion sickness and post chemotherapy.
Antioxidant Immune System Support : Ginger is rich in antioxidants which play an important part in strengthening the immune system by conbating oxidative stress and inflammation and this may help the body fight infections
Weight Management : Ginger can be a valuable addition to the diet for those looking to manage their weight. Ginger is thought to boost metabolism and increase calorie burn, but just as importantly it can help reduce feelings of hunger and increase the feeling of fullness after meals, making it easier to control calorie intake.
Stress and Anxiety relief : Beyond our physical health, Ginger can also contribute positively to our mental well-being. Its warming properties and pleasant aroma can have a calming effect, potentially reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.GiI
Bio-availabilty of Turmeric
The health benefits of Turmeric can only be reaped if our bodies are able to access the curcumin once the turmeric has been ingested. Turmeric is fat soluble (it dissolves in fats and oils rather than water) and this means it has a naturally low absorption rate in our bodies. If we take Turmeric on its own, most of the curcumin will be removed by our liver and excreted before it can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Turmeric contains 3-9% curcumin so it is very important to maximise the availability of this to get the benefits. Piperine is an active ingredient found in black pepper, this can increase the bio-avialability of curcumin by up to 2000% by inhibiting its metabolism by the liver. All our turmeric shots have ground black pepper in them so you can get the full benefit from your turmeric shot.
Because Turmeric is fat soluble, if you take your shot with a meal that has some fat content (avocados, nuts, fish etc.) this will further increase the bio-availability of the curcumin as it will be directly absorbed into the bloodstream and bypass the liver. All of our shots contain some extra-virgin olive oil to assist in the absorption of curcumin.
Apple
The juice from fresh cold pressed apples is used in our products. The juice will always come from fresh apples, never from a concentrate or be sourced from an outside supplier.
Because our apples are cold pressed, the juice is rich in nutrients, particularly Vitamin C, potassium and our juice will also retain soluble dietary fibre which is good for digestion.
Apples have a low glycemic index, meaning they have a minimal impact on blood sugar levels and they also contain polyphenols which may help regulate blood sugar.
Lemon
Freshly squeezed Lemon juice is used in our products.
Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and offers a myriad of health benefits. We add Lemon juice to some of our products because it acts as a natural preservative due to its high acidity and can help inhibit the growth of bacteria.
Pineapple
Pineapple is used in some of our products for its sweet and tangy taste, cold pressed of course to retain all of the nutrients. Pineapple is low in calories but high in vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, vitamin B6 and manganese.
Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps break down proteins and this can aid healthy digestion. It is also beleived bromelain has anti-inflammatory properties
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil is high in monosaturated fats, particularly oleic acid and these have been shown to reduce bad cholesterol.
We add extra virgin olive oil to our Turmeric products because Turmeric is fat soluble. This means the curcumin in turmeric dissolves in fats and oils rather than water. This is significant because it affects how the body absorbs it and its bio availability.

Black Pepper
We use black pepper in our Turmeric products primarily because Piperine, which is the active compound in black pepper, greatly enhances the bioavailability of various nutrients. This particularly applies to curcumin which is made up to 2000% more available by the presence of piperine. This is important so your body is able to effectively absorb it.
